Books in the Aljube – «PIDE and its informers – The case of Inácio», by Paulo Marques da Silva
19 November 2019
“Inácio” is the central figure in Paulo Marques da Silva’s book. “Inácio” was a railroad inspector. For three decades he provided hundreds of information to the political police. To whom he told (by truths or semi-truths) everything that was “abnormal” at the university, in the clubs, in the coffees (or everywhere …) of Coimbra.
At the presentation of «PIDE and its informers. The case of Inácio’, edited by Palimage / Terra Ocre editions, Luís Reis Torgal gave a list of several reports made by information, such as this that we share, about Father Idalino Simões, a “terrible (…) ecclesiastical dangerous assistant”, in ‘Inácio’ words. No one escaped, not even the citizens beyond suspicion.
