Henrique Vale Domingues Fernandes
(Lisboa, 24.08.1913 — Tarrafal, Santiago, Cape Verde, 07.01.1942)
Henrique Vale Domingues Fernandes, born in August 1913 in Lisbon, was part of the group of maneuvers of the ship “Bartolomeu Dias” and a member of the Armed Revolutionary Organization (ORA), linked to the Portuguese Communist Party, he took part in the Sailors Uprising of 8 September 1936.
Accused of “insubordination”, he was handed over to the PVDE by the Navy authorities on September 8, 1936, collecting at the 3rd Post of the 14th Police Station (“Mitra”), then went to the Penitentiary.
On October 14, 1936, he was sentenced by the Special Military Court with a sentence of 4 years of major cell prison, followed by 8 years of exile. Days later he embarks for the Tarrafal Concentration Camp, in Cape Verde, where he died on January 7, 1941, at the age of 28.
