Nurses’ Struggle
#Inthisday On July 1, 1938, decree-law no. 28794, in article 60, established that “In the nursing and domestic service positions (internal service) to be filled by female personnel, only single women and widows without children may be admitted in the future, and they will be replaced as soon as these conditions are no longer met.
The prohibition of marriage for nurses would only end, after a long struggle, with the decree-law no. 44923, of March 1963.
In fact, the prohibition of marriage for nurses and the fight for its revocation mark 25 years of the history of nursing and feminist movements during the Estado Novo.
