Inauguration of the Temporary Exhibition – Augusta Conchiglia on the Eastern Front Tracks – Images (and Sounds) of the Liberation Struggle in Angola
The Aljube Museum’s Resistance and Freedom new temporary exhibition opens on 22nd July.
In April 1968, Augusta Conchiglia clandestinely entered Angola with director Stefano de Stefani to report on the ongoing liberation struggle.
Until September, guided by MPLA guerrillas, they traveled hundreds of kilometers in the liberated areas of Moxico and Cuando-Cubango. Conchiglia took thousands of photographs.
Curated by Maria do Carmo Piçarra and José da Costa Ramos Augusta Conchiglia on the Eastern Front Tracks – Images (and Sounds) of the Liberation Struggle in Angola presents images from the first photographic album by someone outside the African liberation struggles as well as previously unpublished images recovered from the author’s archives.
