Transfer of the remains of those who lost their lives in the Tarrafal Concentration Camp
#Nestedia February 18, in 1978, thousands of people travelled through Lisbon in heavy rain, following the transfer of the remains of those who lost their lives in the Tarrafal Concentration Camp.
In a very just and chilling tribute to the “tarrafalistas” murdered by fascism, on that day a Memorial Mausoleum was inaugurated in the Alto de São João Cemetery, erected by public subscription, where in addition to the names of the 32 mortal victims, it reads: “To those who in the long night from fascism they were bearers of freedom and for freedom they died in the Tarrafal Concentration Camp ”.
Four years after the 25th of April, antifascist memory took to the streets with the slogans “Tarrafal Nunca Mais” and “Fascismo Nunca Mais”, realizing one of the most emblematic moments in the memory of repression and dictatorship.
