Sérgio de Barros Godinho was born in Porto #inthisday 31 August 1945. Poet, composer, performer and actor, he left Portugal at the age of 20 for refusing to take part in the Colonial War. During his exile, he lived in Geneva, Paris, Amsterdam, Brazil and Vancouver.
During the 70s, with José Mário Branco, he composed and narrated his experiences of intervention against the dictatorship. In 1971 he participated as musician and author in the debut solo album of José Mário Branco, entitled “Mudam-se as tempos, mudam-se as vontades”. Also that year he released his first L.P. “Os Sobreviventes”.
Three days after its release, the record was banned, then authorised, and then banned again. He returned to Portugal a year after the April Revolution where he recorded, among others, “À Queima-Roupa”, which became a reference hymn to the causes of the revolution.
Throughout his career he has received several awards and distinctions.
