António Mano Fernandes
António Mano Fernandes was born in Coimbra in 1911. Arrested in August 1936, still a student, his prison biography includes the reference “organizer of communist cells”. He was sent to the dungeons of the PSP in Coimbra and in October is transferred to Caxias Fortress, North Redoubt. In April 1937 he was tried by the Special Military Court and sentenced to 22 months in prison. Discounting the time that he had already been imprisoned, another 485 days of imprisonment are applied. Peniche starts in April. In January 38 he was transferred to the Hospitals of the University of Coimbra, where he died two days later, on January 30th. He was 27 years old.
